Vessels The WEC is happy to introduce its teaching vessels, Smith Point and Moss Bluff. The Chambers-Liberty Counties Navigation District has partnered with the Waterborne Education Center by providing two educational vessels. These 45-foot retired Coast Guard buoy tenders have been renovated as floating laboratories with heavy duty gang planks that provide easy loading and off loading of passengers. Each is equipped with a diverse array of biological, water quality and soil sampling equipment. They also carry appropriate safety equipment to handle emergency situations. Each vessel carries about 25 participants.
Each vessel has a laboratory below deck. Each lab is equipped with a stereoscope and monitor for viewing aquatic organisms, plants and plankton.
